A Teak chaise lounge chair, or two, will complete any patio set and bring effortless style and comfort to your outdoor living. The exclusive use of teak wood will provide years of durability with its weather resistance abilities, and its hardwood strength. The fantastic wood grain and textures will appeal to your senses and bring warmth to your deck or patio.

Teak wood is from the large tropical hardwood trees native to Southern Asia. Being a natural yellowish brown timber, the presence of its natural oils and silica make teak an excellent choice for use where weather resistance, pest and termite resistance, and durability is needed. Typical Teak uses are with fencing, boat decking, flooring and of course outdoor furniture. It’s used heavily in India in general housing construction including window frames and support beams. Even without oil or varnish preservation treatments, Teak is a very durable and a long lasting choice. Being a natural honey-tone color, if untreated with varnishes, a teak chaise lounge chair will weather into that rich grey patina sheen.

What is a teak chaise lounge chair?

The chair’s popularity originated in France and is characterized by a low seat with a length long enough to support the legs, along with a reclined back. While not always having an adjustable back, the Teak wood construction is laid out in long narrow longitudinal “slats,” making it ideal for shedding water and fast drying. Always meant to be an outdoor lounge chair, it was common to see Teak chaise lounge chairs at pool sides, cruise ships and patios.

Being made of “hardwood”, teak chaise lounge chairs will often be available with or without chair pad cushions. These chairs are typically designed to be comfortably used without padding, but purchase a model with the slats spaced closer together for maximum comfort. If you are buying a cushion, or intending to have one made separately, special considerations are necessary, please see my outdoor pillows hub for more information.

A genuine, high quality, or specially styled, Teak chaise lounge chair pricing can range from only a few hundred to several thousand dollars. The quality of construction and options available will vary greatly, reflecting on these price ranges.  A high quality lounger with use solid brass or stainless steel hardware, as inferior metals may corrode and fail prematurely.  Other notable options available, are slide out trays, to keep food and beverages within easy reach.  Adjustable height armrests, adjustable leg and reclining angles are also available features on some chairs.  Its not uncommon to find models with a pair of wheels installed, to make transport across the patio a breeze, as these lounge chairs can be quite heavy.

Shopping online can provide many chair choices, but due to their weight and size, shipping can be quite dear. It’s not uncommon, however to see free shipping available (for those living in the continental US).  Good luck and enjoy!

It a great article written, Few additional comments would be how to select a good teak chaise lounge. First the frame of the teak lounger should be made with thicker wood and the slats should be placed closer to bring more comfort.

You got to be very careful with the hardware used. It should be solid brass or stainless steel.

Some chaise loungers have features that make them bend from the knees and the other ones are straight with only back reclining.

A flip tray is very common and adjusting height arm rest is a good feature for comfort.

I guess you will certainly need thick cushions at least 3inch thick, to enjoy teak outdoor chaise lounger to the fullest.
