Security mirrors have many uses in the home and at the workplace.  From being able to watch blind spots on your driveway to being able to scan the isles in your store, there is a security mirror for all uses.

Surveillance security mirrors

For an inexpensive security solution, a surveillance security mirror works great for protecting your investments.  When installed on ceilings and walls, scanning entrances, exits, between the isles and around corners becomes easy and discrete.  Being able to spot shoplifters in convenience stores, etc. is important for protecting yourself from theft.  Having domed mirrors installed on the ceiling of gas bars will help proprietors “keep an eye” on customers using the far side of the gas pumps.  Larger stores have made the use of surveillance security mirrors obsolete and impractical with the advent of security cameras. They are far more versatile with big floor space stores having many isles.

Security mirror for safety

A security can be used in the interest of safety in so many areas.  Quite often many driveways will have blind corners that can be a navigation hazard.  Not just for spotting cars or pedestrians or children playing, but for pedestrians to spot the traffic as well.  If you have shrubs or walls at the end of your driveway, you might consider installing a round convex mirror to spot traffic or pedestrians before pulling out.

Hospitals need these mirrors as much or more than any other place.  With the abundance of hallways and corners, it becomes of paramount importance that staff and patients can see around corners in advance in the interests of safety.  This becomes especially important when emergency situation arises and traffic speed increases.

In an office, or place of employment, the same situation arises with blind corners.  How often have you seen the perpetual cliché scene in a movie where one employee is walking with his head down, intent on his sheaf of papers, often with a morning coffee in hand…  walks around the next corner, and wham!! Crashes into so and so and everything goes flying.  A domed or convex security mirror on the ceiling could have given a heads up if at least one of the two people were paying attention.  You’d think they’d learn..

Other locations that could benefit from these security mirrors for safety are factories, warehouses, loading docks, schools, libraries and restaurants.  Department and grocery stores where customers are pushing carts can benefit from such mirrors when placed in areas that the customer can easily see around the next corner.

Shapes and sizes

Security mirrors come in all shapes and sizes and there is bound to be one to suit your needs.  While a typical mirror is flat and can offer an undistorted view around a corner, it will give a very narrow angle of view unless it is a very large mirror.  A convex mirror style will show a much greater area at a glance, while giving a more distorted image.  Generally, the accuracy of the image is not what’s important, it’s all about seeing whether there is something around the corner or not.  Larger round convex outdoor mirrors are perfect for spotting traffic and pedestrians in parking lots or driveways.  Domed ceiling mirrors are best used for seeing around corners in hallways and isles, such as in an office or grocery story.  Flat mirrors of all sizes are also readily available for indoor and outdoor use as well.  Mounting hardware will vary, and often can include swivel mounts for precise angling.

The best and easiest way to shop for a security mirror is right here on the internet.  Shipping may be a little pricier, than compared to if you found a mirror at a local outlet, due to the more fragile nature of the product.  However, not all security mirrors are made of glass.  A mirror grade acrylic product will have a reflection quality close to glass, and will be much harder to break and is also shatterproof.  A polished stainless steel mirror will be impossible to break, will be easy to maintain, but will suffer from having a poorer reflection quality.

I have seen this type of mirror a lot on country roads. I never new they were classed as safety mirrors, but it makes sense for when you need to see around a bend. For regular mirrors check out http://www.mirrors4home.co.uk
