Purse Hook
By Eva West
A purse hook is a popular handbag accessory that is available in a wide range of styles. Not to be overlooked as a simple novelty, it can aid to de-clutter, add convenience, while adding a flair of style and prestige.
While a purse or handbag usually has straps, it’s not always practical or convenient to hang it on the most obvious locations, such as a coat rack or the back of a chair. If it’s necessary to keep your purse off the floor or table, such as when dining out, a purse hook can offer a very practical and affordable solution. The four main advantages to using a purse hook is to keep your handbag and belongings within easy reach, to keep your bag safe, to keep it clean (ie. off the floor) and to keep it out of the way. The bottom of your purse will pick of dirt and bacteria if placed on the floor in public places such as beside a bathroom toilet. How often have you gone into a public restroom, only to find the hanger hook on the door or wall to be missing? When it comes time to wash up, how often have you found the sink counter top soaked with water, and unsuitable for placing your handbag on? A purse hook can easily solve these dilemmas and keep your bag clean and safe.
Often called a purse caddy, the usual design has a rigid multiple bend L or J shaped wire that has a round “hook” pad to easily hang your purse off the end of a table. The style ranges are vast and the hooks are usually a silver or gold finish. The typical circular hanging pad will often be a styled designer emblem or logo. It can be jeweled, or have a plain polished finish. It can even house a cosmetic mirror or even a time piece with some designs .
There are four main types of purse hooks on the market. The original rigid wire L shaped hook with the circular pad that I described above, was the traditional style. It’s the simplest and the least expensive, but can be inconvenient to carry in your purse due to its odd shape and size.
The link hook hanger design also uses the circular pad and the hook link chain snaps around the pad for a sleek, portable look. It’s this design that can be often found with a dual purpose cosmetic mirror or time piece, in place of the circular pad.
The spring closing and twisted ring style bracelet types are also excellent designs. They can be worn as a bracelet or linked to the purse strap as a fashion accessory, with quick and easy access for hanging duties.
Whatever your preferred style, choices and availability are in abundance on the internet. With pricing starting under $10 for the most basic, but still stylish designs, the costs can range over $100 for the sleeker designer bracelet types.
