Pink Rugs - more than just a feminine touch

Pink, being that quintessential feminine color, you might expect it to have very limited usefulness in being the color of a rug. The truth is, a pink rug can be a fun and exciting way to lighten up a room, or it can be used more subtly, when combined with the right colors, to soften your favorite room.

Hot pinks blend really well when used sparingly with lavenders and creams, such as in a patchwork style area rug. The strong pinks are there, but when used sparingly, this can add the focal point and bring life to an otherwise monochromatic room, without looking “too feminine.”

A traditional “girl’s room,” with a deep pink colored carpet or area rug can make a bold statement. The look is not for everyone, but can nicely be combined with taupes and greys. This serves to tone down rug’s brightness, and leave a contrasting, but appealing warm look.

Pale pink rugs add warmth like no other shades can compete with. A very pale pink area rug over a deeper pink carpeted floor will ground it nicely. A pale pink area rug also nicely offsets anything from loud pink walls to soft pastel colored paint or treatments. This works really well in a nursery or even an adult bedroom.

Shag rugs!! These deep pile carpets were known for their popularity in the 70’s, being used from anything from steering wheel coverings to warm area rugs to curl up on in front of the fireplace. They’ve seen a resurgence in past years (on floors, not car dashboards) and its little wonder why. A paler pink shag rug can add a much needed feminine touch to an otherwise masculine family room or den with darkened hardwood floors, cold furniture and neutral walls. A deeper pile pale pink floor mat will take the chill away from a cold tile bathroom floor when color is combined with pastels and whites. A matching toilet seat cover will put the finishing touches on the look.

Don’t give up on pink rugs. It’s a very versatile color and there’s a plethora of ideas out there, waiting to be explored!
