Leather desk pad
68An ordinary desk top can be dramatically transformed into a striking and professional appearing workspace with the addition of a quality leather desk pad and set. A properly furnished desktop is of paramount importance in helping to deliver a perception of class and quality to your clients, employees and piers. Leather desk pads come in a plethora of shapes and sizes, qualities, and amenities.
A leather desk pad (and set) isn’t just used to bring elegance and warmth to a desktop workspace. It is also significantly important to protect that expensive glossy mahogany desktop. Also called “blotters,” desk pads historically were largely used to protect the desktop surface from ink spills when the pen and ink were separate. A leather desk pad, today, will prevent those desktop pen marks, that mark through the writing paper, and all the miscellaneous scratches and scuffs that Murphy’s law ensures will take place. Perhaps you have an aged or abused desk that is showing some wear from use without protection. Well, it’s never too late, as adding a leather desk pad will hide the wear and help protect it from further damage. A quality leather desk pad set is also an excellent way to make a less expensive desk, and environment, appear richer and classier, all without breaking the bank.
A standard, quality leather desk pad will be rectangular shaped, and available in various actual dimensions. It will be constructed with either genuine leather, or bonded leather (a cheaper alternative), have a solid writing top/desktop and have a felt or a soft non abrasive underside. There will be a wide range of leathers used which will affect the grain appearance, the texture and the colors. The actual colors will vary from blacks to brown to reds, or to some two tone combination. You will notice the preponderance to the leather side panel “padded bolster” design, which will often open up to reveal business card holder slots.
Desk pads can also be much simpler in design, without the classy aesthetic appeal. They can be a simple rounded or rectangular shaped “place mat” designed for little else other than to protect your desk. These leather pads can be purchased fairly cheaply and they will do the job.
A leather desk pad will often be sold in a set along with several other organizational accessories. Usually you will find a matching pencil holder, an 8.5” x 11” paper box, a memo paper box and usually some kind of “display” business card holder. Theses sets are readily available from online retailers such as Amazon.com, starting under $200. Having your company name, logo or initials heat pressed into the surface of the leather through the process of debossing, is often available. Please note that returns may not be available after this is done.
