Bed Desk

A bed desk can be an important tool for some one who is disabled or otherwise bed ridden, and requires a solid working surface.  It may be just a simple sore back or crook in the neck, but with some propping up of pillows behind, a bed desk can be a useful asset to anyone looking to do some writing in bed, reading a larger book, eating, or using a laptop computer.

Being lightweight is of paramount importance, as a user may not be able to do any heavy lifting or even be able to get out of bed to fetch the table.  Essentially, a bed desk is a small table top with fold out side legs that will straddle the user’s hips while lying in bed.  The working surface of that desk will only be a few inches above the user, so its will be necessary to “sit up” some what, with the aid of pillows or headboard.  Usually being constructed of lightweight wood, a bed desk is fully convertible and adjustable.  The desk top will be adjustable to many angles, and the side legs can be folded under for storage under the bed or in the closet.

Very similar to a “breakfast in bed” tray design, a bed desk will usually have a lip or ledge at the front base of the table top for holding a book, pen or laptop, when inclined at an angle. Often a design will also have cubby holes for storing papers and pens, etc.

Not just confined to bed..

Not to be confined to a bed only, a bed desk can work nicely while sitting on a couch or larger chair. Whether reading a book, eating dinner and avoiding spills, or simply keeping a hot laptop off your lap, you may find you will experience more comfort, and less fatigue with its use. Keep the legs folded and it will sit flat on any flat surface. This will work nicely when sitting at a table when requiring an angled work surface for a large book or laptop.

Bed desks can be easily found online through amazon.com, etc. for under $100.
